Salt braise started: a milestone for the energy transition!
On June 12, 2025, representatives of the energy industry met in Salzburg to celebrate the official commissioning of the salt burglanes. This new 380 KV line is a significant progress in the Austrian power supply. After over 25 years of planning and implementation, it is viewed as an important milestone for the future of the power grid. The board spokesman for APG, Gerhard Christiner, welcomed numerous guests and emphasized the relevance of the project, which closes the last gap in the Austrian 380 KV-Ring, how Leadersnet.at reports.
In an accompanying panel discussion, moderated by Corinna Milborn, prominent industry representatives discussed the State Secretary for Energy, Elisabeth Zehetner, and Michael Strugl, CEO of Verbund AG. This round confirmed the importance that the project for supply security and the support of the energy transition. "The old 220 kV line was outdated and inadequate," said Christiner. Zehetner added that the project was "a wake -up call" to take the need for a faster implementation of critical infrastructure to actively promote the energy transition.
Start of a new energy age
The salt bravery line is not only a technical progress, but also symbolizes the beginning of a new energy age in Austria. Zehetner said that commissioning strengthens security of supply and enables better integration of renewable energies. In order to achieve these goals, the Federal Government works on two reform packages: the Electricity Economics Act (ELWG) and the Renewable Expansion Acceleration Act (EABG). The ELWG is intended to modernize the existing electricity operating system while the EABG aims to speed up the planning process [ots.at] (https://www.ots.at/presseaus-sung/ots_20250605_ots0102/energie-staatsekretain-zehetner-Salzburgleitung-Geht-official-in-Betrieb-fuer-ein-Neues-energy age).
A central concern of the event was also the need for a fact -based culture of debate. This is important to sensitize the public for necessary changes in the energy infrastructure. The dialogue about new technologies and their acceptance among the population was considered crucial to master the challenges of the energy transition.
transformation process of the energy infrastructure
With the commissioning of the salt construction management, a transformation process in the Austrian energy infrastructure is promoted. The integration of essential new forms of energy, such as renewable energies, requires comprehensive adjustments in the electricity and gas network as well as innovative storage technologies that contribute to stable, affordable and climate-friendly energy supply. This aspect is underlined by bmwet.gv.at, where it is emphasized that the sector coupling is becoming increasingly important.
The salt bravery line thus forms a cornerstone of the future energy supply in Austria and can at the same time help to achieve the climate goals by 2040. The construction plan for the future of energy relies on the promotion of the energy transition and ensures that the power grid is expanded and digitized in order to meet the increasing electricity requirement and the decentralized feed -in.
