New portal in the festival district: Progress in Salzburg's construction project
In Salzburg, impressive progress in the construction of the 2030 festival district was recorded. On the night of November 12, a twelve tons of heavy crane boom, also called "Krake", hovered through the air to build the new portal at the Sigmundstor. This portal is a central element for the desired redesign of the area, and the crane itself weighed 200 tons. The construction work took place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., while private transport and taxis were excluded from the passage. Pedestrians and the Obus, however, were able to pass the construction site.
The visible start of construction is of great importance for the Salzburg Festival after six years of construction planning had preceded them. Lukas Crepaz, the commercial director of the festival, explained how important it is to minimize the impairments for the population during the construction work. The crane reaches a height of 45 meters from the ground level, with an interpreter of 60 meters, and the preparations for this began in August.
Citizens' engagement and finance
In the weeks before the start of construction, residents and local dealers were informed about the construction progress and the planned work. During civil dialogues, citizens had the opportunity to find out about the developments and measures. The new festival center is financed by a large donation of 12 million euros from the Swiss entrepreneur Hans-Peter Wild. Further locks can be expected in the coming nights because the construction work is in full swing.
The developments in the festival district not only offer citizens the opportunity to get involved, but also to experience the progress live. More details on this significant project can be found in a detailed report on www.meinbezirk.at .
