Construction site alert: trains between Munich and Salzburg are canceled!
From mid -October, there will be extensive renovation work on the railway line between Munich and Salzburg. This measure, which affects both long-distance and local transport, is carried out by Deutsche Bahn and is expected to last until the beginning of November. Travelers should prepare for numerous restrictions and longer travel times.
The exact period for the construction work is between October 15 and November 4, 2024. During this time, track and course work as well as maintenance work on the overhead line are carried out on the section between Rosenheim and Freilassing. "Some of the trains will run in a single track or even completely blocked," said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn. This means that passengers sometimes have to plan up to 45 minutes more travel time.
restrictions in long -distance transport
The following measures have already been announced in long -distance transport from October 15th to 25th:
- Eurocity-Line (EC) between Munich and Salzburg: Half of the trains must fail, while the others run accordingly.
- Railjet-Linie Munich-Vienna-Budapest: These trains are diverted, which means that hold in Salzburg, Linz, St. Pölten and other cities. The travel time is also extended by about 45 minutes.
In the period from October 26 to November 4, the situation becomes even more difficult:
- ec-line Munich-Salzburg: These trains are completely canceled between the two main stations, which also means that the holding in Rosenheim and Traunstein is eliminated.
- rj-line Munich-Salzburg-Vienna-Budapest: Here is also a detour that excludes the stop in important cities such as Linz and Vienna.
effects on local transport
The effects of the construction site are not only noticeable in long -distance transport. Local connections, especially in regional traffic, are also affected. According to the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB), passengers must expect changes in the timetable and sometimes unusual connections. Affected routes are not yet fully listed in the booking systems, so travelers should inform themselves about the current situation shortly before departure.
"We recommend information about the DB navigator or the website Bahn.de," it said in a notification of the train. In many cases, replacement buses are provided for unusual trains.
Travelers between Munich and Salzburg have to prepare for a challenging travel time and should plan accordingly. The renovation work aims to improve the infrastructure and to offer travelers a more reliable connection in the future.
