Construction site alert: Trains between Munich and Salzburg are canceled!

From mid-October there will be extensive renovation work on the railway line between Munich and Salzburg. This measure, which affects both long-distance and local transport, will be carried out by Deutsche Bahn and is expected to last until the beginning of November. Travelers should prepare for numerous restrictions and longer travel times.

The exact period for the construction work is between October 15 and November 4, 2024. During this time, track and switch work as well as maintenance work on the overhead line will be carried out on the section between Rosenheim and Freilassing. “The trains will sometimes run on a single track or even be closed completely,” explained a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn. This means that passengers sometimes have to allow up to 45 minutes more travel time.

Restrictions on long-distance transport

The following measures have already been announced for long-distance transport from October 15th to 25th:

In the period from October 26th to November 4th the situation becomes even more difficult:

Impact on local transport

The effects of the construction site are not only noticeable on long-distance transport. Local connections, especially regional transport, are also affected. According to the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB), passengers must expect changes to the timetable and some canceled connections. Affected routes are not yet fully listed in the booking systems, so travelers should find out about the current situation shortly before departure.

“We recommend getting information via the DB Navigator or the website bahn.de,” said a statement from the railway. In many cases, replacement buses are provided for canceled trains.

Travelers between Munich and Salzburg must be prepared for a challenging travel time and should plan accordingly. The renovation work aims to improve infrastructure and provide travelers with a more reliable connection in the future.
