The story of Bikefriends Salzburg began in 2014 with a group of cycling enthusiasts who came together. Due to growing interest, the association was officially founded in 2015. Since then, the club has grown to over 140 members who meet regularly for trips and training sessions. They have achieved great success at renowned events such as the Eddy Merckx cycle marathon and the Ötztaler cycle marathon.

The focus is on promoting young talent

One of the most important goals of Bikefriends is to promote young talent in cycling. Under the motto “Away from the cell phone and onto the bike,” they offer the Young Bikefriends professional training, led by a team of four experienced trainers. The young cyclists benefit from the modern infrastructure of the ULSZ Rif, where they can train under professional conditions. Thomas Meinhart, chairman of the Young Bikefriends, emphasizes that they want to build a professional team in the long term and want to strengthen the base by promoting young talent.

Currently, around ten children are regularly active in the ULSZ Rif, and for them the rides on the Salzburgring are a special highlight. Here you can do your laps on safe terrain and experience the racing feeling up close. “It’s great to see the joy with which the children are doing what they do and how they are developing in sports,” emphasizes Meinhart. Fun is the top priority.

In addition, the Bikefriends are the main organizers of the Cyclodome, a spectacular cycling event in the old town of Salzburg. This event not only attracts professionals who compete against each other in a criterion, but also offers young bike friends the opportunity to take part in the ASVÖ Rad Champion. The children have the chance to see their idols and dream of being successful in professional cycling themselves one day.
