Rodionov fails early in Bratislava: Prizmic remains undefeated!
Bratislava, Slowakei - Jurij Rodionov left the current 100s Challenger in Bratislava at an early stage. The 26-year-old lost 1: 6, 4: 6 in his first duel against 18-year-old Dino Prizmic. Rodionov was not able to counter in the first set and immediately collected a break in the first service game. In his only game win, he also had to ward off two break balls, while Prizmic remained inviolable with the service.
In the second set, the game was initially more balanced, but Prizmic achieved the decisive break in the fifth game to 3: 2. After that, both players held their service, and the Croatian finally used his first match ball. For Rodionov, departure marks a further defeat in a row after it recently failed in the quarter -finals in Prostejov (Czech Republic). Prizmic, on the other hand, celebrated his sixth victory in a row after winning the title in Zagreb.
prizmic: an emerging star
Dino Prizmic, who won the Challenger tournament in Bratislava, is a promising talent in tennis. In 2023 he won the title in the boy singles at the French Open (Roland Garros) and won his first ATP Challenger Tour title in Banja Luka eight days after his 18th birthday. He is the latest Croatian champion since Borna Coric in 2014. Other milestones in his career are that he is the first player since Wu Yibing (2017) who gains both a Grand Slam Junior title and a Challenger title in the same season.
Prizmic was trained in the Tenis Club Split, where tennis greats such as Goran Ivanisevic and Mario Ancic also trained. It is particularly impressive that Ivanisevic Prizmic praised at the age of nine and spurs him to work on his forehand and service game. This early funding is clearly shown in Prizmic 'development, which went to Zagreb at the age of 14 to train more seriously and to measure themselves against other players.
meaning of the Challenger tour
The ATP Challenger Tour plays an important role in international men's tennis and forms the substructure of the ATP Tour. Since its foundation in 1978, the tour currently has 178 tournaments in 40 countries with a total prize money of around $ 28.5 million in 2025. Challenger tournaments enable players outside the top 100, ranking points for higher ATP tournaments and thus drive their career.
By lifting the rule that prohibited top 50 players, these events became even more attractive in Challenger tournaments. Players like Prizmic appreciate the importance of these tournaments for their development and mental preparation, especially in the transition phase for the ATP Tour. The Challenger thus offer a valuable platform for talents to prove themselves on the larger stages of tennis.
