Revolution in Manufacturing: Rockwell Automation Introduces PointMax™ I/O

On June 17, 2025, Rockwell Automation, Inc. introduced PointMax™ I/O, a flexible distributed input/output (I/O) system designed to help manufacturers address the growing complexity of modern industrial operations. In view of dynamic and networked manufacturing environments that require a high degree of adaptability, the company is ideally equipped to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0 with this new product. Traditional I/O systems are often difficult to scale and maintain, which is a major obstacle given the extensive wiring and large control cabinets. In contrast, PointMax I/O enables modular, scalable, and easily reconfigurable I/O deployments.

The system offers the necessary flexibility for new machines and existing systems in fast-moving production companies. Designed for high-performance environments where reliability and real-time communications are critical, PointMax I/O is suitable for harsh industrial conditions and a wide range of applications. The official launch took place at ROKLive EMEA in Rome, where participants were able to experience live demonstrations and workshops. The system is expected to be available in the third quarter of 2025, increasing anticipation in the industry.

Technological advantages

PointMax™ I/O modules represent a new generation of remote I/O solutions specifically tailored to modern manufacturing needs. The integrated and scalable I/O product range promises market-leading performance with high flexibility and reduced space requirements. A key feature is the modular design, which reduces the space required in the control cabinet and significantly simplifies the system layout. These modules can be used in various applications within the discrete, hybrid and process industries.

The system's technological capabilities include insightful diagnostics, fast connectivity and simplified integration. PointMax I/O optimizes machine efficiency and maintenance through features such as high response speed and data processing. The modules are modularly adaptable in an I/O rack and can support a total of up to 32 modules. The system is also designed for operating temperatures from -25 to +60°C, with special XT variants suitable for even the harshest conditions.

Innovative integration

In today's world, a secure network infrastructure is just as crucial as the integration of intelligent devices that enable efficient data collection. Rockwell Automation has integrated this into its industrial automation systems strategy. With the option to individually put together platforms, companies can design their automation systems efficiently. The integration of controls and information across the company enables operational processes to be optimized. Networked collaboration between systems and employees is significantly promoted by these new technologies.

PointMax I/O is compatible with CompactLogix® 5380, CompactLogix 5480 and ControlLogix® 5580 controllers and requires Studio 5000 Logix Designer® version 36 or later. With a uniform design that supports common tags and data structures across the 5000 I/O architecture, as well as Near-Field Communication (NFC) for IP configuration, efficient commissioning and maintenance is guaranteed. The modules therefore not only offer adaptability, but also a significant reduction in downtime due to the possibility of changing modules while live.

These are some of the many features that make PointMax I/O a promising solution to the challenges of modern manufacturing. Interested companies can look forward to the official launch next quarter as Rockwell Automation continues to lead the way in industrial automation.
