Right -wing meetings in France: Orbán warns of population exchange

Vienna, Österreich - On June 9, 2025, there was an important meeting of right -wing parties in France, organized by the nationalist party of racial emblems National (marginal). Prominent right -wing politicians from several European countries, including Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, the deputy head of Italian from Lega, Santiago Abascal, head of the Spanish party Vox, as well as Susanne Fürst in Austria and Andrej Babiš, the former Czech Prime Minister.

A central topic of the meeting was EU migration policy. Orbán described this as a "organized population exchange" and warned of a potential change in the cultural basis of Europe. He emphasized his successes to push back migrants. Salvini spoke of an “invasion” of Islamist illegal immigrants, which in his opinion was financed by the EU. The meeting took place a year after the European elections, in which the RN became the strongest force.

Marine le pens ambitions

Marine Le Pen, which is in a legal discussion, plans to compete in France at the next presidential election. It was sentenced to four years in prison for embezzlement of EU funds, with the prison sentence currently being suspended. Nevertheless, their passive right to vote is immediately debit. Le Pen is determined to exploit all available legal remedies to maintain their political ambitions.

A number of participants of around 5,000 was expected at the event. Babiš announced that it is critical of the role of the EU Commission, his initiative will find support from parts of the Christian Democrats and Conservatives in the European Parliament. However, FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl and the head of the FPÖ delegation in the EU Parliament, Harald Vilimsky, were not present.

New factions in the EU Parliament

parallel to the developments on the political stage in France, the Berliner Zeitung reported that Viktor Orbán and Marine Le Pen with founded the name "Patriots for Europe" in the European Parliament. This parliamentary group comprises 84 MPs from twelve EU countries, with the French RN with 30 MPs the largest group in this alliance.

The other members include the FPÖ from Austria, the Italian Lega, the Spanish Vox, the Portuguese Chega as well as the Danish People's Party and the Belgian Vlaams. The foundation could significantly strengthen the right-wing external forces in the EU Parliament. However, there are also differences between the right -wing parties, in particular with regard to their attitude to arms deliveries to Ukraine.

The influence of the right outer parties

As reports the Tagesschau, the new alliance is the third strongest block in the European Parliament, together with the European Conservatives and Reformers (EKR). These developments could give the right-wing populists advantages in the design of committee occupations and linguistic times, but without endangering the pro-European majority in parliament. Above all, the pro-European forces have to expect counter-votes from the right-wing camps, especially with regard to migration, climate protection and Ukraine aid.

The political landscape in the EU Parliament seems to be diversifying further, while cooperation between right-wing outer parties is becoming increasingly important. These developments will also influence the political dynamics and future strategic direction of the EU.
