Puchner impresses in downhill training – one step towards the World Championships!
In the second women's downhill training in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Mirjam Puchner set a strong example and achieved the best time of 1:42.30 minutes. This made her 0.73 seconds faster than the American Breezy Johnson Tyrolean daily newspaper reported. Puchner apparently also fulfills the internal qualification for the downhill run on Saturday. The next Austrian was Stephanie Venier, who finished sixth, 1.26 seconds behind. Ricarda Haaser had to settle for twelfth place (+1.61) and Cornelia Hütter with 13th (+1.63), while Ariane Rädler finished in 22nd place.
Puchner was enthusiastic after the run and said on ORF television: "I did really well today. I feel really good." Her outstanding performance is made all the more remarkable because she has struggled this season and cannot compete in the Super-G on Thursday due to her previous results. The focus was therefore on the downhill training, where teammates Puchner, Haaser and Rädler fought for two starting places, whereby the trainers' judgment was also taken into account. "For me it wasn't about the qualification. I'm not completely dissatisfied with my run," said Venier with satisfaction, even if she sees potential for more.
