Process against Weinstein: Jurors are certain - a new scandal?
On Tuesday, April 23, 2025, the highly expected trial against Harvey Weinstein began before the court in New York. The jury consists of twelve jury, including seven women and five men. The selection of the jurors was characterized by challenges, since numerous potential jury either did not appear or felt presumed because of the extensive reporting. In the past, Weinstein has already been sentenced to a 16-year prison sentence in another procedure. In February 2023 another process took place in Los Angeles, in which he was convicted of sexual violence, which further tightened his already tense legal difficulties, such as [Kleine Zeitung] (https://www.kleinezeitung.at/service/newsticker/chronik/19607854/eroeffungsplaers-im- process-in-new-york) reported.
In this new procedure, the jury must deal with three serious accusations against Weinstein. The indictment includes the alleged sexual coercion of the former production assistant Miriam "Mimi" Haley from 2006, the supposed rape of actress Jessica Mann from 2013 as well as allegations of the forced oral transport by a third plaintiff that took place in Manhattan in 2006. This plaintiff is a witness who has now decided to testify under her own name. Numerous other women who see themselves as victims of Weinstein will initially do not testify in the new process, which has been reconsidered to previous legal decisions that have been covered by Weinstein's conviction. An appellate court had previously abolished the judgment of the first trial in which Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison, such as [rnd] (https://www.rnd.de/panorama/harvey-weinstein- process-schworent-ajlzslzslvxyvMTTEMHFQ.HTML) added.
context and relevance of the #metoo movement
Weinstein's name is closely associated with abuse of power and sexual assault. More than 80 women have expressed themselves as victims and described Weinstein's behavior as predatory. These incidents did not disappear with the first conviction; Rather, they have created a clear awareness of sexual violence against women in public. The Weinstein case was a formative moment in the #Metoo movement, which was triggered more than seven years ago by revelations from the "New York Times" and the "New Yorker". Strongly grown social discussions about gender -specific violence have meant that many affected women, such as Lady Gaga, Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie, have shared their own experiences with violence and abuse. These events illustrate how deeply rooted the problem of sexual violence in society and how important it is to talk about how woman.at describes.
Weinstein is now aiming for a re -evaluation of his case and emphasizes that all of his sexual contacts were mutually acceptable. However, he will remain in custody regardless of the results of this process, since his punishment continues to exist from the Los Angeles procedure and he has appealed against the judgment there. The state indictment urges the jury to put aside their personal views of the #Metoo movement in order to be able to make a fair judgment. It remains to be seen how this process will develop and what effects this will have on public awareness of sexual violence.
