Austrian animals, especially cattle, are also affected by these transports.

The VGT will participate in the demonstrations all over Austria and is planning a media campaign in Vienna.

protests and information actions

On June 13, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., VGT activists will be: inside with cuddly toys with an animal transport bicycle trailer, loaded along Mariahilfer Strasse. This campaign is intended to sensitize passers -by: sensitize inside and inform about the problem of international living animal exports. The right and conservative majority in the EU Parliament currently blocks necessary improvements for animals during transport, which further underlines the urgency of the protests.

At the EU level, a new animal transport regulation is currently being negotiated. This is intended to include clear guidelines and responsibilities for the transport of living vertebrates. As explained bmel.de, the responsibility for the well-being of the animals is due to all people involved in the transport, be it transport company, organizers or animal owners. Specific evidence and training courses are required to comply with the legal provisions, especially for long -distance transports over 8 hours.

challenges of animal protection

The EU regulations that came into force on January 5, 2007 contain stricter regulations for transports over 8 hours, such as temperature regulations and access to water. Nevertheless, there are numerous challenges, since transports of certain animals, how very young or pregnant animals are prohibited in the last stage of gestation, but are often not sufficiently checked.

The topic of animal welfare is part of a more comprehensive discussion about animal welfare within the EU. According to europarl.eu there are numerous legal framework for ensuring animal welfare in the EU, which also include the protection of wild types or better catch methods. These efforts are an integral part of the Green Deal of the EU and are intended to promote the well -being of animals in all areas, including animal transport.

The international day against animal transport gives an important platform through the campaigns of the VGT and the international community to point out the need for a reform of animal transport prescriptions and thus improve the well -being of animals.
