Pistorius announces 1.9 billion euros in military aid for Ukraine!

During his visit to Kiev, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius today promised comprehensive military aid. Germany plans to increase support for Ukraine to a total of four billion euros, with further increases to up to nine billion euros within this year. A planned amount of 1.9 billion euros is to be used specifically for the development of long-range fire systems that are to be produced in Ukraine.

The possibility of delivering Taurus marching aircraft to Ukraine with a range of over 500 kilometers is excluded. According to Pistorius, this option is not pursued further, despite the long -lasting demands on the part of the Ukrainian government. After their conversations in Kiev, Selenskyj and Pistorius explained that Germany and Ukraine are striving for a joint production of weapon systems such as marching aircraft, drones and rockets.

military cooperation and new technologies

To support these initiatives, Germany will also be financially involved, while Ukraine will bring in their technologies and experience from the war. The first systems of long-range fir technology should be available in the coming months. Germany reacts to the increased Russian attacks, which are carried out both in the form of drone and rocket attacks.

According to current reports, Russia has carried out the most extensive drone attack since the beginning of the war, in which 479 types of Shahed and several Kinschal hyperschallrakets were used. These aggressive actions are interpreted by Selenskyj as evidence of Russia's lack of interest in a peace process.

The role of the armaments industry

The German armaments industry, in which companies such as Krauss-Maffei Wegmann play a central role, is currently facing a variety of challenges. KMW is known for the Leopard 2 fighter tanks and has expressed concerns due to the reduced number of tank in the Bundeswehr. Estimates show that about two thirds of the jobs have been lost in the armaments industry since the end of the Cold War, which illustrates the dependence of the industry on state contracts and export guidelines.

The military officer of the Bundestag, Peter Bartels, criticizes the complicated bureaucracy within the Bundeswehr, which leads to significant delays in arms transactions. At the same time, the KMW company is planning a merger with the French armaments business Nexter in order to minimize its dependence on individual governments and to be able to act better on international markets.

Overall, the latest developments show the importance of military aid and cooperation between Germany and Ukraine in order to counter the current challenges in security policy. Both countries actively campaign for the expansion of their ability to defend in order to withstand the continuing threats from Russia.
