Petition for protection zones: 15,000 votes against attacks in Berlin's ÖFIS
In the past few days, a petition for special protective components in public transport, which are aimed at “Flinta people”, has received immense support. According to Exxpress.at , more than 15,000 signatures were collected within a few days. The petition calls for the establishment of compartments in subways, trams and buses that are specially intended for women, lesbians, inter, nonbinaries, trans and agenders.
The required compartments are to be attached primarily in the rear areas of the vehicles, where attacking men have often been spotted in the past. Lila -colored seats have been proposed to identify these shelters. In November 2023, the Greens spokeswoman for Transport Policy, Antje Kapek, had already called for similar measures for women's compartments in subways. The background to these demands was a depressing rape case on a Berlin subway line in spring 2024.
Berlin transport companies react
The Berlin Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), however, rejected the idea of such a "Flinta compartments". The BVG refers to existing safety precautions such as emergency calls and information columns at train stations. These facilities enable passengers to request help from the driver or the security control centers at any time. In addition, all vehicles are equipped with alarm and emergency calls in order to be able to establish a direct connection to the driver. After a test phase, joint cleaning and safety strips were also introduced on certain subway lines to increase the feeling of security of the passengers.
Despite these measures, the feeling of uncertainty among queer people in Germany remains a big topic. According to an initiative, which is to be found on wect.campact.de , however, many people no longer consider homosexuality as shame spread hate crime. In the current debate, a policy is required that promotes free and open society and is particularly important for future generations. The petition to improve the protection of LGBTQ+persons has been signed by various celebrities, including actors, musicians and activists.
security situation in public
The feeling of uncertainty among queer identified people is reinforced by media reporting and personal experiences. The demand for special compartments is therefore not only a reaction to individual incidents, but also a step towards a broader social acceptance and security. Tolerance of injustices is considered indispensable to promote an open and diverse country.
The debate about the protection of the LGBTQ+community in Berlin transport clearly shows how important it is to listen to the voices of those affected and to take targeted measures to improve security. The petition symbolizes the fight against attacks and discrimination in public space.
