Pensioners defend themselves: Protest against planned pension cuts!

The latest reports on possible increases in health insurance contributions for pensioners have caused unrest in Austria. The President of the Austrian Senior Citizens' Association, LAbg. Ingrid Korosec, commented and made it clear that it was so far only unconfirmed media reports. The current contribution is 5.1%. Korosec emphasizes that every raising must also go hand in hand with concrete improvements in healthcare, such as lower waiting times during operations or an expansion of care by health insurance doctors. "All population groups, including the older generation, have to contribute to the renovation of the budget," says Korosec, "but this has to be done in a socially compatible framework," reported ots.at .

At the same time, the President of the Pensioners' Association, Dr. Peter Kostelka, with a sharp warning. He criticizes the planned suspension of the valorization of the pension account crops for next year, which, according to media reports, would mean a drastic reduction of around 7 percent. Kostelka describes this as a "inadmissible pension cut". He argues that such measures endanger confidence in statutory pension insurance and threaten the subsistence level of almost 2.5 million people in Austria. "Pensions are an economic factor and not a cost factor," Kostelka concludes, as well as on pvoe.at . The pensioner association plans to mobilize and make bitter resistance against these interventions with an "alliance of generations".
