Pallitsch sprints to the new ÖLV record and World Cup ticket in Tokyo!
Raphael Pallitsch made a remarkable appearance at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava/Ostrau. The 35-year-old from Burgenland set a new Austrian record over 1,500 meters and beat the world championship limit for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September. With a time of 3:32.96 minutes, he improved his own record from the previous year by 0.63 seconds, which was previously 3:33.59 minutes. This performance was highlighted by Krone as exceptional and illustrates Pallitsch's strong form after health problems that previously unsettled him.
Pallitsch achieved his record time, finishing eighth in a race won by Kenyan U20 world record holder Kipkosgei Koech with a time of 3:29.05 minutes. In a statement, Pallitsch said that he had managed a tactically clever race and was able to pick up the pace in the last third of the race. He also reported that he still had reserves to possibly run faster. Surprised by his time, Pallitsch was pleased with the direct qualification for the World Cup and exceeding the sound barrier of 3:33 minutes, as Laola1 reported.
Further successes at the meeting in Ostrava
The Ostrava meeting, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold Series, also saw other notable performances. Enzo Diessl confirmed his World Championship qualification in the 110 meter hurdles with a third place in 13.25 seconds, just behind the Americans Dylan Beard and Grant Holloway, who both shone with a time of 13.11 seconds. Karin Strametz finished the 100 meter hurdles race with a fourth place finish in 12.83 seconds, just two hundredths behind her own Austrian record.
The athletes' achievements are recognized not only by the spectators, but also by the Austrian Athletics Association (ÖLV), whose goal is to maintain and promote athletics in Austria. Pallitsch's new best time and the strong performances of his colleagues show that the athletes are well prepared for the challenges ahead.
