ÖVP boss Stocker: 50 percent chance of failing the coalition negotiations!
In a dramatic turning point of the political landscape of Austria, the ÖVP announced on February 12, 2025 that the coalition talks between the ÖVP, the SPÖ and the NEOS are on the brink. According to the ÖVP boss Christian Stocker, there is a 50 percent probability that the negotiations could fail, which further strengthens political uncertainty, as Puls24 .
In an interview,Stocker described after the failed "blue-black" attempted negotiation that the ÖVP "went long ways" and questioned whether the negotiations were actually only about posts. The present 223 pages of negotiation protocol are proof that it is more about more. The recent statements by FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl, according to which the ÖVP is only interested in power, rejected Stocker. In his opinion, it is essential to form a "capable of acting" that not only manages, but also actively designed, as Oe24 reported.
further negotiations possibly with SPÖ and Neos
The possibility of new discussions with the SPÖ managers keeps Stocker open, but emphasizes that he does not want to prescribe who should represent the party. The "red lines", which failed in previous negotiations, are still a central topic. Stocker explained that the topic of a banking was requested by various parties and it seems that Austria could not form a government without this tax. He pointed out that an official intermediate status of the negotiations would be expected by December 12th, but the decision could also be delayed, which further fueled uncertainty.
