ÖSV-eagle fly high: Tschofenig has brought the first victory since 2014!
In a turbulent and rousing competition on New Year's Day 2025, Daniel Tschofenig enchanted the red-white-red ski jumping fans and celebrated the first victory of the Austrian ski jumper in Garmisch since 2014. The 22-year-old Carinthian faltered at 143 meters when he was landing when a ski teased him, but he was able to prevent a fall and remained intact. ORF expert Gregor Schlierenzauer breathed up and noticed: "If the bond opens ...", which perfectly captured the thrill. Tschofenig has headed the overall ranking with this triumph and leads with 7.9 points ahead of Jan Hörl and 8.7 points before Stefan Kraft, as the Krone reported.
Austria's dominance continues
The red and white-red ski jumper broke the Oberstdorf curse with an overwhelming performance and are now ready to put it in Garmisch. Stefan Kraft described his jumps as "Harakiri" and you can look forward to the next competition on Tuesday, which the ÖSV team under head coach Andreas Widhölzl is planning. With the possibility of wining the first overall victory for ten years, the team fueled hopes for a Nations Grand Slam, since eight of nine podiums went to the Austrian Springer in the last three World Cup competitions, such as OE24 reported.
The pressure on the athletes grows because the fans cheer them on as favorites. Especially for Kraft, who won the golden eagle of the tour winner for the last time in 2014/15, Garmisch could be a decisive nail test. In the past, the experienced jumper had to struggle with placements outside the top ten, but he remains optimistic: "You always have to believe in it," said Kraft about the possible victory. Exciting competitions are imminent, and the anticipation increases with the sold-out Bergisel jumping, which will take place on January 4th before 22,500 fans.
