Triumph ÖAMTC heroes: Austria at breakdown help in Switzerland!
in a competition that puts the expertise of breakdown helpers to the test, Matthias Krumpholz and Jordan Simeonovic Austria are represented in Lausanne, Switzerland in October 2025. The international competition, officially referred to as the European breakdown championship, gathers teams from all over the European Union. The ÖAMTC selected the two Viennese technicians after intensive qualifying, in which they had to prevail against teams from all Austrian federal states. The tasks of qualifying included breakdown aid on various vehicle types, including cars with combustion engine, electrical and hybrid vehicles as well as bicycles and motorcycles that could be solved within a certain time limit.
Herbert Zwanzinger, head of the technical quality management of the ÖAMTC, emphasizes how challenging the different tasks were. Krumpholz and Simeonovic will compete against the best breakdown helpers in Europe in Switzerland and compete with their international colleagues.
international cooperation and experiences
In parallel to the preparations for the European Championship, another group of Austrian breakdown helpers from the ÖAMTC takes part in an important competition in Slovenia. Leonie Tieber and Markus Resetarits from the ÖAMTC base Graz West have qualified for the FIA Road Patrol Training, which takes place in Vransko from October 17 to 2023. This event, which is organized together with a partner club from Slovenia, which AMZS is organized, promotes the international exchange of experiences between mobility clubs, such as the ÖAMTC, which recorded a total of 662,677 missions in Austria in 2022.The director of the ÖAMTC, Oliver Schmerold, emphasizes the essential role of breakdown help for the members and highlights the high quality of the mobile services. The qualification conditions were also extensive; Six teams, each with two breakdown drivers from various ÖAMTC state associations, took part in the preliminary decision in Vienna.
technical excellence in focus
The challenges of the competition again included breakdowns on a wide variety of vehicle types and required extensive technical skills and excellent customer service. The winners of the qualifying also had to master a competition with a hydrogen drive car, which underlines the importance of sustainable technologies in mobility.
The importance of such international competitions is also supported by the ARC Europe, an organization that was founded in 1991 and comprises eight leading automotive clubs in Europe such as the ÖAMTC. ARC Europe is committed to improving the services for members and supporting drivers in need.
The two events underline the commitment of the ÖAMTC and its partners to promote technical knowledge and excellent breakdown service in Europe. Participation in such competitions not only recognizes the professional excellence, but also promotes international exchange, which is of great advantage for all member organizations.
