Opening of the BlüMeli self-service store in St. Georgen
The “BlüMeli” self-service shop will open tomorrow, November 22nd, in St. Georgen near Grieskirchen. This new store will be located at Obersteinbach 8 and will offer a delicious selection of flower bushes and cut flowers that are available seasonally. Anyone interested is invited to the opening party to celebrate the day with punch and cookies.
The idea for this self-service shop came about during the Corona pandemic and has now been realized by Melanie Kampl, a trained florist, together with two neighbors. In addition to beautiful flowers, the shop also stocks creative gift items offered by the neighbors: wooden decorations from “Hoizgspü” and individually designed bags and candles from “Glücksmoment”. The flowers come from the region whenever possible, although in the cold season German and Dutch sources also have to be used.
Opening times and future prospects
The newly designed self-service shop has an area of 2.5 x 3 meters and was artistically painted by Gabi Raab from St. George. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. "I hope that the store will be well received. Perhaps there will be an opportunity to operate a larger container store in the future," says Kampl optimistically.
She sees the longer opening hours as an advantage over small flower shops. These opening hours are intended to give customers the flexibility they want, especially at a time when retail is increasingly facing competition from larger supermarket chains.
The amaryllis as a winter favorite
A personal favorite of Kampl's in the winter time is the amaryllis. "This plant is just perfect for the Christmas season: it has wonderful flowers, looks great and doesn't require much care. So you don't have to worry about constantly watering it," she explains enthusiastically.
Let’s see how “BlüMeli” will develop in the community. The opening ceremony offers an excellent opportunity for the residents of St. Georgen to familiarize themselves with the creative offerings of the region. The initiative to offer local products and handcrafted gifts could attract numerous flower lovers and gift givers.
