7.2 million for innovative learning spaces in Lambacher Stift
In the heart of Lambach, a significant renovation is planned at Lambach Abbey, which will modernize the school environment for the students. With an investment of 7.2 million euros, the project aims to create a welcoming and sustainable learning atmosphere. This renovation measure is largely financed by public funding, with the monastery itself also covering part of the costs. The conversion is part of a general renovation of the Realgymnasium (RG), which is traditionally considered a place for spirituality and education.
The implementation of the project is led by a group of experts, including Abbot Maximilian NEUER as well as economic director Armin Rieder and school director Rainer Jocher. They have set themselves the goal of sustainably modernizing the existing premises in order to meet the requirements of contemporary education.
Designing for the future
The renovation includes several key aspects designed to support modern learning. This includes:
- Räume, die Kreativität, Kommunikation und kritisches Denken fördern;
- Helle und offene Unterrichtsräume für eine freundliche Lernatmosphäre;
- Modernisierte Klassenräume mit Smartboards;
- Zusätzliche flexible Lernzonen in den Gängen.
Planning is particularly challenging because lessons for around 360 students have to continue during construction work. Those responsible would like to avoid a container solution and are striving to find alternative uses within the monastery premises. In order not to disrupt school operations unnecessarily, the renovation will be divided into four phases.
Reconstruction times and phases
Construction work is expected to begin in summer 2025 and will be carried out in the following phases:
- Phase 1: Sommer 2025 – Anmietung von Ausweichräumen für den IT-Unterricht im Stift;
- Phase 2: 2025/2026 – Umbau des Adalberotrakts;
- Phase 3: 2026/2027 – Sanierung des Hauptgebäudes;
- Ende: 2028 – Abschluss aller Arbeiten und Rückbau der Provisorien.
This initiative demonstrates the tireless commitment of those responsible to create a more modern and inspiring learning environment that offers Lambach's students a high quality education. The focus is on expanding educational opportunities in the school while preserving the historical significance of the monastery. The progress in the renovation is being followed with excitement as it has the potential to sustainably change the region's educational landscape.
