Drinking water quality in the Vöcklabruck district: only 12 out of 78 systems flawless

In the Vöcklabruck district, a comprehensive review of individual water supply systems was carried out. A total of 78 plants were examined, it turned out that only 12 of them are in perfect condition.

The campaign "For our drinking water", which runs from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024, aims to secure the drinking water quality in the district. With this initiative, the owners of the water supply systems were given the opportunity to seek advice directly on the structural condition of their wells.

review results and bacteriology

The evaluation of the data collected shows that of the 78 -checked wells 43 met the requirements regarding bacteriology. 18 fountains were still suitable, while 17 were completely unsuitable. One of the main causes for the inadequate bacteriology results lies in the poor structural design, such as inadequate covers or leaky fountain walls. Only 26 plants did not show any structural defects, while only 12 were classified as flawless. Nevertheless, the water was suitable for enjoyment at a total of 40 fountains.

State Councilor Stefan Kaineder underlined the need for improvement measures. "The climate crisis affects the water cycle and already means that house wells dry, which is alarming," says Kaineder. In addition, it was found that many house fountains do not meet the necessary structural standards in order to provide safe drinking water.

Although not all households can be connected to a public water supply, the state of Upper Austria has launched funding programs to support the creation of new common supply structures if this makes sense.

These actions are crucial to clarify future water supply issues and to react to the need for long -term planning, especially with regard to the changing climatic conditions.
