Hiking dreams in the Braunau district: discover autumnal paths

BRAUNAU DISTRICT.If you're looking for picturesque hiking spots in the Braunau region, you don't have to travel far. Gertraud Ranftl and Andreas Mühlleitner from the Altheim and Braunau Alpine Club invite you to explore the beautiful hiking routes in autumn and give valuable tips for everyone who loves nature.

Gertraud Ranftl discovered her passion for hiking in 2008, completely by chance. She accompanied her husband on a guided hike to the Hochkönig, which is almost 3,000 meters high, and quickly realized that hiking gave her great joy. “The special thing about hiking? Reaching a goal that requires a bit of effort,” she explains. It's the moment when you ask yourself if you can do it and then realize that you're getting closer to the goal that makes the hike so special.

Shared experience

The Alpine Club's offerings are diverse. While some tours are challenging, Ranftl prefers more relaxing hikes, which often take place in the region. These free tours are very popular and also attract hikers from surrounding districts. “It's just fun to march around together,” says the tour leader, who welcomes new participants with open arms. The hikes usually last two to three hours, with a group stop at the end.

A popular destination are the exercise arenas, which can be found in almost every town and are signposted in an exemplary manner. “The Innviertel Movement Arena or the Mattigtal Movement Arena are great options,” she adds. Many of these arenas have had new signage this year, which attracts walkers.

Ranftl also involves her participants in route planning and encourages them to share their favorite hikes with her. “It’s great when they can present their secret ways,” she says happily.

Beautiful hikes in the area

There are numerous worthwhile hiking routes in the region. Ranftl highlights St. Johann, where the hilly landscape provides variety. A visit to the Ibmer Moor in autumn is also a good recommendation. If you go towards Oberndorf, you can discover special places. The area around Hochburg-Ach and the Tannberg are also worth a detour.

Andreas Mühlleitner, also from the Alpine Club, has lots of tips and refers to his hiking guide “Innviertel active – hiking – discovering – enjoying”. In his home community of Aspach, he recommends the hike to the Stiblerlinde and the Spercheneder Chapel, especially in the autumn months. The space under the lush crown of the tree not only offers a pleasant rest, but also a beautiful view over the Innviertel. Alternatively, there is also a shorter route to the Adelsberger Kreuz.

Another tip from Mühlleitner is the “Gemma Schmolln Schaun” landscape frame path in Maria Schmolln. A walk around the Höllerersee in St. Pantaleon leads to a beautiful mixed forest that shines golden in autumn. In another hike that Mühlleitner is leading on Sunday, October 27th, we go over the Wienerhöhe to the Riesentanne in Weißenbachtal. The number of participants is limited here.

For anyone who likes to hike outside the district, Mühlleitner recommends the panoramic view trail in Diersbach. “When the weather is clear, here you have a fantastic view over the Innviertel to the Alpine peaks,” are his impressions.
