Safe roads in winter: Winter service teams in the Salzkammergut in action

With the move in winter, the winter service teams in the districts of Vöcklabruck and Gmunden are ready to fore the winter weather. Your task is to keep the streets safe and navigable, even if snow and ice can make the paths difficult. It is a challenge that requires great commitment and the latest technology to monitor road conditions and to ensure the "black" streets, i.e. snow -free lanes.

In the coming months, winter service in both districts will work tirelessly. The roadmasters are active around the clock to react to changeable weather conditions. An impressive road network of almost 6,000 kilometers in Upper Austria must be looked after. For the districts of Vöcklabruck and Gmunden, over 600 and 349 kilometers are planned in their respective regulations for the evacuation and scatter.

Winter service in the district of Gmunden: Efficient scattering techniques

In the Gmunden district, there are two central locations for winter service, where a committed team of 20 people takes care of the evacuation and scattering of the streets. This team is supported by a winter service coordinator that controls the operations with the help of traffic cameras and modern weather information. An important part of the work is the use of high -quality boiling salt for the scatter, which comes from Ebensee. The care of Bergstraßen such as Großalmstraße and the Gmundnerberg, which are particularly challenging, is particularly tricky.

An advanced approach is the use of moisture salt, in which a salt tray is applied directly to the street. This method has the advantage that it reduces both the consumption of road salt, as well as improves the mutual effect and prevents significant riprop.

District Vöcklabruck: A strong team

In the neighboring district of Vöcklabruck, around 70 employees work to maintain the security standards along 493 kilometers on federal and state roads. To ensure that the streets are cleared at all times, two large bases have been set up in Vöcklamarkt and Seewalchen, supplemented by smaller depots in Schwanenstadt and Zell on the petting. Around 2,000 tons of salt are available in the region, which guarantees extensive scattering even in the event of strong snowfall.

There is also an essential focus on the West Autobahn, the 140 kilometers of which are supervised by the Seewalchen motorway team. Here, too, moisture salt is used, which works particularly effectively in slippery conditions.

The tasks of the winter service teams are quite demanding and the stress due to special weather phenomena should not be underestimated. It happens that so -called invasion weather sites make the snow more difficult and difficult to clear the snow in the ski areas due to factory exhaust gases or snow cannons. Even extreme temperatures in higher altitudes can bring additional challenges.

For the safety of all road users, State Councilor Günther Steinkellner emphasizes the high priority of winter service. He explains: "Our roadmasters are well prepared to meet the challenges of winter." However, drivers are asked to adapt their driving style to the winter conditions and ensure that their vehicles are equipped with the necessary winter equipment.

It remains to be seen how the next winter months will present the teams both in Vöcklabruck and in Gmunden. However, they are already being well prepared.
