Students discover agriculture: Rye sowing and baking bread in Schiersnersdorf
Neumarkt. A school class from the Waldorf School Linz recently had an exciting and educational experience in the Spänhauer family in Schiersnersdorf. Andreas Spänhauer, who is known for his homemade bread from a small Brotatelier, not only brought the art of bread baking closer to the students, but also the basics of agriculture and food production.
The 22 third graders had the opportunity to work on a field by sowing rye. "Instead of a horse, ten children pulled the old plow, which brought them closer to the physical exertion that is necessary to prepare the soil for sowing," explains the farmer. With this practical experience, the students were able to feel the importance of working in agriculture, in particular plowing, eggs and finally sowing the rye seeds. After work, the whole thing was rounded off with a warm meal from pumpkin soup and fresh bread, which certainly contributed to the delight of the children.
meaning of nature experienced
The visit had not only a practical, but also a deep pedagogical value for the students. Spänhauer emphasizes: "It is a personal concern for me to bring the youngsters closer to the importance of nature and to raise their awareness that we are part of this nature and are connected with different natural processes every day."
The school attendance will not be the last of its kind: in spring the students will return to visit the field that has already been set and bake with Andreas Brot. This sequel shows the long -term learning effect and the commitment that both teachers and farmers show for a better understanding of agriculture and food production.
Such projects are not only enriching for the children, but also promote deeper appreciation of food and their origin. At a time when many people have lost relation to nature, such experiences are particularly important. Spänhauer sees this as a way to have a sustainable influence on the next generation by becoming familiar with the processes that affect their food.
The entire campaign not only shows the practical side of agriculture, but also offers a valuable learning experience for the pupils that they will never forget. The connection between theory and practice is underlined in an impressive way, which leads to a deep appreciation for nature and food production.
