250 children immerse themselves in the digital world at #it_rocks

From October 28th to 29th, the fourth edition of the "#it_rocks digital holidays" took place in Steyr, in which 250 children and adolescents aged 10 to 14 years took part. This event aims to bring the exciting possibilities of computer science closer to the young participants. The participants had the opportunity to learn the basics of programming in a number of workshops, to develop computer games and to experiment with robotics.

This digital education initiative, which is supported by various institutions such as the Linzer Coderdojo and the FH OÖ Campus Hagenberg, has developed rapidly since its foundation in 2021. Compared to 2022, where only 70 children from four schools took part, the number of participants has more than tripled this year with a total of 13 schools that opened their doors for digital development.

The training centers

Among the participating schools were renowned institutions such as the BRG Steyr, the Schärding Gymnasium and the MS Vorderweißenbach. These schools not only provided their PC rooms, but also teachers who were supported by the students during the workshops. In this way, an environment was created in which learning is not only effective, but also entertaining.

The attentive mentors, including from HTL Leonding and HTL Braunau, led the workshops and gave the students not only technical knowledge, but also valuable insights into current IT trends and opportunities. The enthusiasm of the children showed that learning in these interactive formats turned out to be particularly appealing.

growing need for digital knowledge

The relevance of digital skills cannot be emphasized enough today. In the current world of work, you are increasingly looking for specialists with IT knowledge, which is reflected in the large number of open spots in Upper Austria. There are currently over 2,600 vacancies in more than 800 companies. The increasing demand is also reflected in the number of participants in the digital holidays and shows how important it is to promote digital skills at an early stage.

The "#it_rocks digital holidays" offer the students the opportunity to playfully deal with computer science, which is invaluable in a future with high demands on digital abilities. This initiative is carried out in cooperation with the Upper Austrian Location Agency Business Upper Austria, the Education Directorate Upper Austria, and the technical universities in order to show the young people a clear path in digital professions and training paths.

An impressive example of the commitment in the digital formation of the region is the provision of these high -quality programs, which concerns the need for a well -trained skilled worker basis. The joy and interest of the children in the workshops illustrate the success of this initiative. Further information is to read here
