New women's shelter in Ried: Safe refuge for those affected

An important new chapter for the protection of women and children is opened in Ried. In view of the increasing number of cases of domestic violence and the need for suitable accommodation, the construction of a new women's shelter was urgently required. The new premises are designed not only to protect women and their children, but also to offer them the support they need for a fresh start.

The women's shelter, which has arisen from an interaction of state funding and non -profit housing association, was officially inaugurated and is now ready to offer affected women and children a safe environment. "Violence on women is one of the ugliest sides of our society," said Christine Haberlander, the women's officer and deputy governor of Upper Austria. "With the new building of the women's shelter in Ried, we take another important step to strengthen our protection network for women and children."

Details on the new building

The modern women's shelter offers a total of 18 living spaces, six of which are intended for women and twelve for children. These residential units are functional and can be expanded by additional rooms if necessary. This creates a place where they can calm down and recover from traumatic experiences. Bright and friendly spaces should create a pleasant atmosphere that is important for the healing process.

The total cost of construction amounts to 2.1 million euros, which are covered by the funds of the social affairs and housing subsidies of the state of Upper Austria as well as by continuous support for operating costs, which amount to around 500,000 euros in 2024. This sum ensures the operation of the women's shelter and the professional support of the residents.

"It is very important to me that the Ried women's shelter offers a safe refuge for women and children who are affected or threatened by domestic violence," said Mayor Bernhard Zwielehner. The women's shelter should not only offer accommodation, but also psychological and legal support to make it easier to switch to a new life.

In addition, a comprehensive security concept ensures that the residents are protected. In addition to structural measures, technical precautions that are specially designed for the needs of women and children are integrated. Susanne Billinger, the women's shelter's chairwoman, emphasizes: "Our house should offer women and their children who are affected by domestic violence."

With this new opening, the city of Ried not only strengthens the infrastructure for vulnerable groups, but also sets a strong sign against violence against women. The new women's shelter is an important step in the right direction and will be a valuable resource for the community.
