Nature experience in the Wurzacher Ried: Citizens explore planned lookout tower

On September 26th, while a pouring rain fell over Bad Wurzach, around 50 citizens came to the guided tour of the Wurzacher Ried. This event was organized by the parliamentary factions of the local council to inform the participants about the planned nature lives tower. Dr. Siegfried Roth, head of the Wurzacher Nature Conservation Center, took the lead and explained the project to re-interfere with the Moores awarded to the European diploma.

The event offered the citizens the opportunity to receive information directly from Roth and members of the local council. Among the participants were also several critics of the project, including well -known faces such as Herbert Birk and Andreas Bader, as well as Dr. Ulrich Walz, one of the initiators of a citizens' request against the tower building. The tour led the group to the location of the planned lookout tower near the former Haidgau peat plant, which has been a popular destination for tourists for years.

insights into the planned project

Roth also spoke about Lake Stuttgart, a water that was created from peat mining after the First World War. During the tour, however, there were always disorders of the critical participants, which caused the moderator, municipal council Klaus Schütt, to direct the discussions. He asked to concentrate on the essential topics because the time pushed due to the dark. Insight into the state of the Riedwiesen provided heated debates.

A central argument of Dr. Roth was that the planned location of the tower was already burdened by the peat industry. The European Commission, which is responsible for the European diploma, expressly supports the construction of the tower, while it spoke out against wind power projects in the Wurzacher Becken. This support is intended to underpin the importance of the project and to remedy concern for the environment.

Thomas Lötsch, department for building, environment and business in the district office, also took part and expressed how important it was to maintain the open dialogue with the citizens. However, he also observed a certain strativity among the participants who stand in the way of a factual discussion. Lötsch emphasized that everyone involved should have an eye on the uniqueness of the Wurzacher Ried as a common goal. "The arguments for the tower predominates clearly," said his words.

environmental and nature conservation aspects

During the hike there were also concerns about possible disorders of rare bird species that could nest near the tower location. Ulrich Gröser, a bird customer, addressed these worries, while Roth pointed to the positive aspects of the tower. However, the previous investigations had assessed these concerns as not serious.

Another participant, the biologist Stefan Hövel, began skeptical, but was impressed by the wonderful landscape of the Ried after the tour. This reaction testifies to the power of nature to convince even critical voices. The project continues to be discussed controversially, while the city of Bad Wurzach is faced with the challenge of finding balanced solutions between nature conservation and tourist development.
