Waldhausen Advent: 20 years of art and enjoyment in the abbey area

Waldhausen in Strudengau shines in a festive shine, because the couple Alexandra and Robert Holzer pays homage to a special tradition this year: the 20th anniversary of their Advent market. With their passion, they have transformed the market into a true highlight of the pre -Christmas season. They have been relying on the proven motto "Art and enjoyment" for over two decades, which includes both handicrafts and regional dishes and thus attracts many visitors.

The roots of the Waldhausen Advent go back to 2002 when the pastor Karl Wögerer Alexandra Holzer suggested the atmospheric ambience of the renovated abbey facility for a Christmas market. "To this day, the market is a joint product of many volunteers," emphasizes Holzer, showing the collective force behind this festive event.

The concept that Holzer has devised not only attracts locals, but also pulls guests from far away, even from abroad. "We present solid handicrafts, framed by regional culinary arts," she explains and emphasizes that the market should not slip into kitsch and commerce. Instead, one wants to focus on art and cultural quality, which contradicts many overcrowded and less inspiring Christmas markets.

A popular highlight of the Advent market is the “Music for Christmas” concert, which Robert Holzer has curated since 2007. The opera singer and professor at the Bruckner University integrates his students into the performance and thus ensures a wonderful mood for the upcoming festival. According to his wife, it is a particularly enriching moment: "For me, this is the first moment when I can sit down and take a deep breath."

"With us, Advent has never been the breastfeeding time of the year for many, many years!"

Preparations for the Christmas market are a year -round process. "While the market is running, I am already collecting ideas on what you could improve or make it new next year," said Alexandra Holzer. Her philosophy is simple: creating a festive atmosphere in which people feel comfortable. Even if the organization of the market is associated with challenges, they donate time and energy to implement their vision free of charge In the end, the satisfaction of visitors and exhibitors remains the central point for the Holz couple. "When everyone is happy, I think: good that you keep doing it!" This commitment and enthusiasm for the Waldhausen Advent contribute to its attraction far beyond the borders of the region and make it a unique experience in the run -up to Christmas.
