Leonding celebrates 35 years of UN children's rights with clear claims

on November 20, the international day of children's rights, the children's friends Leonding set a strong sign of the protection and rights of children. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the UN Convention on Children's Rights Rights, a “Children's Rights Republic” was proclaimed. This event emphasizes that every child has a right to adequate education, protection and participation.

Together with the Mayor Sabine Naderer-Jelinek, the children's friends raised the children's rights flag in front of the Leonding city office. This symbolic gesture is intended to draw public attention to the ongoing need to offer children in our society a safe and supportive environment. The young participants had already celebrated with a colorful children's rights party, at which games and cakes provided a good mood.

demands of children's friends

Renate Marx, the chair of children's friends Leonding, underlined the importance of those who work for the rights of children. "As long as only one child in this world happens, it is important to fight for children's rights," she said. The children's friends make concrete demands to sustainably improve the life of children and adolescents. A central concern is protection against violence, which is to be improved by increased financial means for child protection concepts. These concepts should be evaluated regularly to guarantee their effectiveness.

Another important topic is support for unaccompanied minor refugees. Children's friends demand that these children will receive a permanent caregiver and care from the first day to offer them a perspective and to give them in their insecure situation. However, their commitment also extends to education.

Access to free educational offers, all -day school programs, language support and free lunch for all children are considered essential for the development of a child -friendly society.

Renate Marx also sees the health of the children as a priority. It calls for the expansion of therapy places and child psychiatric institutions as well as regular health checks in schools. At a time when climate protection is increasingly being focused, the children's friends are committed to ensuring that the rights of children are also taken into account in the context of environmental and climate protection. Her demands also include free use of public transport for all young people.

A particularly pressing problem is poverty among children in Austria, which currently affects around 370,000 children. Children's friends are committed to a staggered basic childcare and measures that promote affordable living space for families.

Due to their initiatives and the proclamation of the "Children's Rights Republic", the children's friends Leonding set a clear signal for the need to work for the interests of the youngest 35 years after the introduction of the UN Convention on the Rights of Children. Your active role reminds us that the Effort for a fairer world requires the tireless efforts for the children who will shape our future.
