additional controls and vehicle deficiencies

The extensive control of the vehicles has shown a worrying trend in recent years. According to the TÜV Report 2025, 20.6 % of the cars have "significant" or "dangerous defects", which means an increase of 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous year. This is particularly alarming because a large number of vehicles on German roads are in a questionable condition. The TÜV report is based on 10.2 million main inspections that were carried out between July 2023 and June 2024.

The examination covered 228 vehicle models in six age groups. Particularly noteworthy are the results of the Honda Jazz, which shines in the age group of 2 to 3 years with a defect rate of only 2.4 %. In contrast, the Tesla Model 3, which ranks in the same age group with a defect rate of 14.2 % at the top of the worst vehicles. A clear difference is also shown in the electric cars, in which the defect rate of brakes, axles and lighting is above average. ADAC informs about current defect statistics ...

This findings indicate that the need for regular vehicle controls and the awareness of technical defects in vehicle owners are still high. The police and the relevant authorities face the challenge of ensuring security on the streets and consistently preventing illegal conversions in order to improve traffic safety.
