Peuerbach is preparing for spectacular New Year's Eve run
Peuerbach. The anticipation for the annual New Year's Eve in Peuerbach is increasing, because in around a month it will finally come. This important event is not only very popular, but also beyond national borders. This year the Sportunion Igla Long Life is expecting a smooth running of the event again, and this owes it to a committed team of 120 volunteers.
The New Year's Eve run, which takes place for the 42nd time this year, is considered a sporty highlight of the region and attracts numerous spectators. Together with the 1,200 expected starters, world stars of running sports will also start. A small part of the secret for the smooth process are the over 2,500 working hours that flow into the preparation and implementation of the event. "We need the support of the many volunteers, because without them this event would not be possible," explains Marion Gierlinger from the Sports Union.

The preparations are already in full swing. A team of ten helpers takes care of advertising in total 35 communities to attract as many participants and spectators as possible. However, the intensive preparations only begin a few days before New Year's Eve when the athletes arrive at the airport and are accommodated. It often happens here that travel plans have to be adapted acutely, especially if there are international flight delays.
The focus is also on the organizational aspects such as a reception with the mayor and the traditional New Year's Eve party. Before the competition, the competition office will be busy compiling the starter bags, the control of the participant data and preparing prices and trophies. The award ceremonies for each age group will take place immediately after the respective races, so that all spectators quickly enjoy the results.
In addition, the organization team takes care of the catering of the athletes, the handover of medals and the technical implementation of the live stream transmission, which is displayed on large video halls. These measures enable spectators to follow the racing events in real time. The Sportunion Igla Long Life also relies on a strong presence on social media to accompany the event in a contemporary way.
A remarkable feature among the helpers is the age structure: the oldest helper has almost 80 years, while the younger team member is only 12 years old. Many helpers take free from work to be able to participate in the organization. The dismantling begins almost two and a half hours after the last run so that the traffic through Peuerbach can flow again as quickly as possible.
