On September 30, 2024, a bank robbery occurred in Linz-Urfahr, which is now becoming increasingly clear. Investigations by the State Criminal Police Office of Upper Austria, supported by forces from Lower Austria and the public prosecutor's office in Linz and Vienna, have led to the arrest of several suspects. While two of the perpetrators were caught immediately after the attack, intensive investigations took place in the following weeks, which brought another suspect into the investigators' sights.
The investigation took a turn on November 14, 2024, when it was discovered that a 24-year-old stateless man from Vienna may have played a key role in the crime. During a search of his alleged accommodation, the officers found valuable information as well as the looted property that was connected to the attack. However, the man we were looking for was not present.
Arrest and further developments
A day later, on November 15, 2024, the Cobra team's emergency services managed to locate the 24-year-old as a passenger in a vehicle. During this attack, not only the suspect was arrested, but also the driver of the car. He is also suspected of being involved in money laundering and supporting the crime, but did not confess. This follow-up meeting also made it possible to secure further amounts of cash.
The operation and the arrests show that the authorities are working hard to clarify the background to the attack. The people now arrested are in the Vienna and Linz prisons while the investigation continues to clarify the exact processes and the role of everyone involved.
