Art turf pitch in Handenberg: A new venue for the region

The municipality of Handenberg finally has its own artificial turf pitch after long negotiations and an intensive planning process. The construction was approved in May 2022 and is now ready to open its goals for the domestic football clubs. Over 1.4 million euros flowed into the creation of this new sports facility, which now represents the third artificial turf area in the Innviertel after there are already places in Hohenzell.

The place has already seen the first games and training sessions in the past few weeks. According to Günter Russinger, the section manager of the TSU Handenberg, the facility is particularly valuable, not only for preparing for the spring season, but also protects the traditional natural lawn places. "The new artificial turf pitch intends to offer our clubs an excellent training basis," said Russinger. Over 30 friendly games are already planned for the approaching winter preparation phase.

The long way to the new sports area

The new system consists of a special mixture of quartz sand and cork granulate, which meets the requirements for modern artificial turf pitches. Pure plastic granulate is no longer allowed. Players report consistently positive feedback, especially the younger talents are happy to have the opportunity to train outside in winter. "In the past, we often had to switch to the halls in October, now we can enjoy the outdoor season much longer," explains one of the coaches.

It was originally planned to build the artificial turf pitch in Pischelsdorf, but this project was not realized due to protests and financial aspects. Due to the persistent commitment of the TSU Handenberg, the surcharge for the construction could finally be granted. This win-win situation is not only important for the local associations, but also makes it easier to make the schedule, since the games no longer have to be moved to Salzburg to train on artificial turf. ”The central location of Handenberg makes it easier for all teams to prepare for the coming season,” comments Russinger.

For many athletes in the region, this artificial turf pitch marks the beginning of a new era in which the training opportunities are significantly improved and a variety of encounters will take place on the new artificial turf in the coming winter season. The joy in Handenberg is great because the long waiting time for this facility has now come to an end.
