The focus: Review of the 8th hygiene day in the Waldviertel

In the picturesque Zwettl, numerous experts from the health sector met at the beginning of October for an important exchange about hygiene practices. The 8th Hygiene Day Waldviertel, organized by the Hygiene team of the Horn State Clinic, attracted around 230 participants from clinics, rehabilitation facilities as well as care centers from all over Lower Austria and Vienna. Crucial topics related to hygiene in health care were discussed here.

The event began with a personal greeting by Thomas Schmallegger, who performed as an assistant to the management of Gesundheit Waldviertel GmbH. The moderator, OA Dr. Helmut Bäck, hygiene officer of the Horn State Clinic, led those present through a day full of exciting lectures and discussions.

A Highlight of the day was the presentation of Thomas Freundlinger from the Keplerklinikum Linz, which illuminated the challenges in the preparation of medical devices. Another important contribution came from Priv.-Doz. Dr. Matthias G. Vossen, PhD, from the Medical University of Vienna, who presented innovative approaches in wound management. OA Dr. Oskar Janata from the Donauspital Vienna clarified the correct handling of multi -resistant bacteria.

The Hygiene Competency Günter Kalchbrenner from the State Clinic Horn, one of the co -organizers of the event, spoke about the documentation and organization of patients with transferable infectious pathogens. His explanations were supplemented by Martina Zimmel from the PBZ Schrems, which explained the implementation of the methods presented in nursing and support centers. After the lunch break, Leo Karner from the University Hospital Krems dealt with the topic "Water - a versatile product". Mag. Dr. Tillo Miorini from the Institute for Applied Hygiene, which addressed hygiene -technical examinations in hospitals and nursing homes.

"The Hygiene Day Waldviertel was again a complete success," emphasized OA Dr. Helmut Bäck in his closing words. "We are already looking forward to the ninth hygiene day Waldviertel, which will take place on Thursday, October 2, 2025, in the Horn club house." These events are crucial for the continuous improvement of hygiene practices in the healthcare system and show how important the exchange between experts is.
