In the casemates of Wiener Neustadt, this year's sports lounge Lower Austria was provided, in which outstanding athletes and teams were awarded. This event took place for the 48th time and is a permanent tradition to honor the achievements of the best athletes from Lower Austria.
Valentin Bontus, KiteSurf Olympic champion, was celebrated as an athlete of the year, while the climbing Jessica Pilz was awarded her bronze medal from Paris in the women's category. With this achievement, Pilz has taken another significant step of its impressive career. In the team category, the SKN St. Pölten was honored as a team of the year, which was able to win the double in the 2023/24 season.
Paras athletes of the year
In the special category for paras athletes, Veronika Aigner was named the best paras athlete. In the 2023/24 season, she won the World Cup crystal balls in slalom and giant slalom, accompanied by her sister and guide, Elisabeth Aigner. The ceremony of this category was made by Felix Mayer, a well -known youngster from Großweikersdorf. Lilli Hohenauer, who won the U18 European Championship in beach volleyball together with her partner Lia Berger, was awarded as a young young athlete.
"We congratulate our outstanding winners! With their remarkable achievements and successes, they are great role models, especially for our youth," said Udo Landbauer, the deputy governor. The evening was not only a celebration for the athletes, but also an appreciation of the many volunteers who do an indispensable work for sport in Lower Austria.
Honoring the volunteer office
The third time was awarded the "Sportheld of the Year" award to reward the commitment of volunteers in Lower Austrian sports clubs. This year the audience award went to Beate Fasching from WSV Prein an der Rax, who made a significant contribution to establishing the sport of racing tobogganing in the region.Traditionally, a sports legend was also honored. Thomas Diethar, former ski jumper, who won the four -hill tour in 2014 and booked the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Sochi, had his handprints immortalized on a legend plate. In the future, this table will be seen at the access to the new sports center in Lower Austria and point out how important such historical achievements are for the sports history of the federal state.
"It is particularly important to us to capture these historical sports moments," said Landbauer, while he emphasized the importance of sport for the community. The evening offered a platform to celebrate the success of the athletes and the importance of the volunteer in this area.
