Change at the top: Styrian Corinna Scharzenberger new farmers' association director!

Schrems, Österreich - The political play of colors in Lower Austria took a striking turn! David Süß, the new mayor of Schrems and former director of the Austrian Farmers' Association, caused a sensation at the municipal council elections at the end of January 2025. With a whopping 41.01 percent of the votes, Süß led the ÖVP to the first victory in this stronghold since 1945 and thus closed the era of the SPÖ. This makes him a topic of the week, as Noen.at reported.

The transfer of the management to his successor Corinna Scharzenberger also marks a historical moment for the farmers' association: for the first time, this office is led by a woman. Scharzenberger, an experienced lawyer and former MP, is anchored in Styrian politics and praised as a "Styrian with passion" by Peasant Confederation President Georg Strasser. At a time when women are becoming more and more important, their choice is underlined by their predecessors in the state farmers' associations, such as Bauernzeitung.at

David Süß will be officially elected mayor in early March and has to give up his position in the Federal Center in Vienna. He and Scharzenberger not only take on new offices, but also send a strong sign of change in Lower Austrian politics. This personnel change brings a breath of fresh air, not only in the hometown of sweet, but also in the structures of the farmers' association, which has often been used as a springboard for later ministers since 1980.
