Science for everyone: Invitation to Science Goes Public 2024 in Vienna

On November 7, 2024, the Society for Research Promotion of Lower Austria (GFF Lower Austria) invites you to the event "Science Goes Public 2024", which takes place in the APA press center in Vienna. From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., this event presents a selection of research projects that were funded as part of the FTI call "Climate Change 2020". As part of the strategy to combat climate change, the GFF Lower Austria brings scientists and media representatives together to discuss innovative solutions.

science journalist has the opportunity to take part in the event in presence or online. This flexibility offers the opportunity to contact the researchers directly. The daily routine includes a number of short presentations in which the scientists and their projects imagine. The projects include, for example, a sensor system by Wilfried Hortschitz to predict extreme storms and an examination of heat waves of vines by Jose Carlos Herrera.

program highlights and innovations

The event offers a structured agenda that begins with a greeting, followed by Elevator Pitches, in which seven projects are presented in three minutes. This is followed by an impulse lecture on the science communication of Lena Yadlapalli. A "poster walk" and a voting format are also planned, in which the participants can vote which projects they like best.

All of this leads to an exciting "press speed press", in which journalists have the opportunity to have personal conversations with the scientists and ask questions. During this interaction, individual timeslots can be booked in advance, which enables a deeper examination of the respective topic.

One of the other interesting projects that are presented is a new resource -efficient material concept for hardwood by Maximilian Pramreiter and researching the effects of climate change on the fertility of cattle in Lower Austria by Vitezslav Havlicek. These projects show how diverse and relevant research on climate change is and what concrete effects they have on different sectors.

The Society for Research Promotion of Lower Austria, as a central research funding company in the country, actively supports the exchange of ideas between science and society.
