U20 ice hockey: Austria's team is preparing for World Cup in St. Pölten
From Monday, a decisive preparatory program begins for the U20 men's team of Austria in the sports center of Lower Austria in St. Pölten. This marks the starting signal for preparing for the U20 World Championship Division IA, which will take place in December 2024 in Bled, Slovenia. The aim is to optimally prepare for the upcoming challenges. Head Coach Philipp Pinter emphasizes the importance of this week and explains: "This is a very, very important week for us" because the games against Norway, Denmark and Latvia are decisive tests.
Sports Director Roger Bader emphasizes that this phase of the training is a central location determination and enables the coaching team to solidify the existing system. "The encounters with Latvia, Denmark and Norway help us to quickly reach the required level in order to be competitive at the World Cup," he adds.

The team is not only confronted with a strong competition, but also has to do without some legionnaires from overseas. This opens up younger talents the opportunity to recommend a place in the World Cup squad. Coach Pinter emphasizes the chance that the U18 players offers: "In our opinion, those who are now there are very good talents that have also earned this opportunity."
Particular attention is paid to the team's three goalkeepers: Benedikt Oschgan, Max Kogler and Patrick Müller. Pinter is positive about the development of the goalkeepers, especially about Oschgan, who recently gained Champions League experience. "We can be very satisfied with the current development," he explains.
A fundamental part of the training will focus on special teams. "We saw at our last tournaments and the World Cup last year that the level of the teams is so high that the special teams can make the difference," explains Pinter. In the past, the team was not able to achieve the desired efficiency, especially in the power play and had to add too many goals.
