Kikaleinerererer: What does that mean for the disappointed customers?

The Kika/Leiner furniture chain has filed for its bankruptcy after the investor search has failed for a renovation attempt. From now on, there is low prices from up to 30 percent on storage items, while the future of the 17 remaining branches and the 1,350 employees remains uncertain. The mood is tense in the shops because many customers fear their deposits and ordered goods. According to mass administrator Volker Leitner, there are “a large number” of damaged customers whose advance payments may not be reimbursed due to the insolvency law provisions. This has led to a "resentment" among those affected, who often directed against the employees, as an angry customer described, who insulted the employees and reproached them. According to Leitner, it is important to emphasize that the employee cannot be blamed, since they also have to suffer from the situation, as reported.

The situation is still complicated by the fact that particularly flood victims that have ordered furniture are now on their money. These hardship cases must be accepted according to bankruptcy law. While the employees try to save the Christmas business through the sales, they have to struggle with the frustration of the customers who worried about their money ordered. According to information, many employees already receive salary cuts because Christmas funds and full salaries have not been paid out, the GPA reported. The union now calls for a labor foundation for those affected and is planning prompt information events in cooperation with the AMS in order to show the employed perspectives and to inform about job offers. The creditor claim can be registered with the St. Pölten Regional Court, whereby the quota usually only includes a minimal part of the voucher value, as reported.

A given examination day statute of the Kikalein-Sanoration was canceled due to the conversion to bankruptcy proceedings. However, the employees still have some time to close the branches, but it is clear that the situation is extremely precarious for many employees. The Kikaleiner Central Center Chairman Herbert Sulzer hopes for an investor, but the lifting of the branches is getting closer and the options for the workforce are becoming less and less.
