Brutal attack on 76-year-old: Process against Bulgarians in St. Pölten

A shocking event occurred on February 23 in Untertullnerbach when a 76-year-old woman became a victim of a brutal attack. A total of more than 20 hours had to remain in a painful state, tied up with cables and with a wrapped head due to the attack by probably three men from Bulgaria. They broke into their home, overwhelmed the health -struck woman and robbed her.

The case was recently negotiated in St. Pölten. Two of the alleged perpetrators had to answer for robbery, deprivation of liberty and attempted murder. The prosecutor said that the behavior of the perpetrators brought the woman into a life -threatening Situation, which was considered extremely agonizing by experts.

The development of the case

The first defendant, a 35-year-old, already had a criminal record that amounts to 16 heavy offenses. He admitted that he had traveled from Bulgaria with the two Bulgarian compatriots on February 19 and shared a hotel room in Vienna on February 22. On February 23, they broke into the woman's house. This information was confirmed by the movement of the messenger, but the accused could not explain why his DNA was found at the scene. Process assistant Andreas Gartner made it clear: "How his DNA got to the crime scene cannot explain the accused!"

The second defendant, 40 years old and also a criminal record, claimed that he had traveled to Germany from Vienna with his family on February 21. His lawyers stated that there was no concrete evidence against him. Wife and son performed as witnesses and assured that they would have picked up the defendant in Vienna on the 21st and drove back to Mannheim.

The horror of the crime

According to the victim, at least two perpetrators penetrated their house through a broken terrace door. In a brutal assault she was pushed to the ground and tied up with a telephone cable. "I couldn't move anymore. I only shouted 'air, air'," the woman recalled. While the perpetrators were busy for about an hour with the search of the house, they locked the room and stolen valuables with a total value of more than 45,000 euros.

The 76-year-old not only suffered physical injuries, but also great psychological fear that she could suffocate. Finally she was found by a friend the following evening. Medical examinations showed functional disorders of the heart muscle and an acute stress reaction. The prosecutor made it clear that the perpetrators left the woman back to die: "They didn't care."

In the courtroom, the contradicting statements of the accused were carefully examined for their travel movements. The process was postponed to November, until then the accused will receive a negotiating protocol in Bulgarian. In the meantime, it remains to be seen how the allegations will develop and whether the truth comes to light.
