30 years of Family City: an engine for tourism and region at the border area
The Family City, once known as Excalibur City, has established itself as a important location for tourism and business. For 30 years now, the Seunigs, the family behind this successful project, have been setting accents in the border area near Kleinhaugsdorf. The place attracts over three million visitors annually, with a large part of the guests from Austria. The region benefits from an excellent infrastructure and regular opening times on Sundays and public holidays, which further increases attractiveness.
In 2024, a comprehensive change process was initiated to further develop the Family City. With investments of around 3.5 million euros, the first phase of the expansion was successfully completed. The managing director Roger Seunig said optimistically and reported on a variety of innovations: "We have expanded Merlin’s Farm greatly and created new campsites. In addition, the world's largest Lego collection was opened in our new LEGO store." A dinopark will soon attract visitors.
a remarkable anniversary
The 30th anniversary is a special occasion for the Seunig family. Ronnie Seunig, the father of the current leadership, laid the foundation for the first Duty Free Shop in this border region. "With this anniversary we not only look back, we also look at the future," emphasized Roger Seunig. Future projects include the opening of a bathing pond as well as new family-friendly attractions such as a "fun world" in the former aircraft restaurant. The Family City should strengthen these continuous investments as an attractive goal.
freport as an attraction
The neighboring designer outlet center Freeport is another important factor for the region. Thanks to a wide variety of brands, this outlet has established itself as a popular destination for price-conscious buyers. With the conversion to an indoor village and creating an impressive atmosphere, Freeport has developed into a leading shopping location in eastern Austria. "Sales have doubled since 2015, and the number of visitors has increased by 30 percent," said Managing Director Thomas Seikmann and added that the outlet offers a variety of high -quality brands at reduced prices.
The partnership between the Family City and Freeport is considered important by both sides to create a unique area of experience. The new S3 motorway connection ensures a simple journey, which contributes to the popularity of this destination. These developments show that the Seunig family and the operators of Freeport not only work on a successful past, but also have a promising future in view.
