Black clouds over Kika/Leiner: 600 jobs in danger - what now?
In view of the bankruptcy of the Kika/Leiner furniture chain, around 1,350 employees face existential challenges. In particular, 600 employees in Lower Austria are looking forward to an uncertain future. The SPÖ Lower Austria, led by state chief Sven Hergovich, is now reproducing the introduction of a labor foundation in order to open up the opportunity to continue training and new perspectives for the employees concerned. This procedure has already proven to be successful in neighboring Upper Austria, where, according to the bankruptcy manufacturer KTM, a similar initiative was quickly launched to combat unemployment.
Hergovich is pleased with the reaction of the black and blue state government on the pressure of the SPÖ, describing the creation of the labor foundation as a decisive step. "It is gratifying that the AMS Lower Austria now has the basis for providing targeted support," said the State Council. However, he points out that it is not just about the formal presence of the foundation, but the actual provision of funds for qualification and retraining. "We want to ensure that the foundation not only exists on paper, but also works in practice," emphasizes Hergovich, pointing out the need for sustainable solutions to help those affected effectively.
