In a dramatic incident on December 6, 2024, around 7:30 p.m., two serious traffic accidents occurred on the B29 in Scheibbs, which mobilized numerous rescue workers. First, a 32-year-old driver lost control with his truck and tipped over in the area of the Erlauftalbahn underpass. The driver's cab hit the retaining wall. The driver and his two passengers, a 19-year-old and a 24-year-old, were injured and had to be freed from the truck. While the 24-year-old suffered serious injuries and was flown to the University Hospital St. Pölten with a rescue helicopter, the other two inmates got away with minor injuries and were transported to the State Clinic Scheibbs, as reported.

Fire brigade accident under the bridge

The entire rescue operation extended over 5.5 hours. The rescue of the damaged fire engine was particularly challenging, especially under the adverse weather conditions with persistent rain. The necessary measures to clean and secure the accident site were also carried out to ensure the safety of everyone involved. The emotional burdens that such operations bring with them were perceived by the forces involved as particularly challenging, as the fire brigade found independently.
