Five schools in Neunkirchen receive awards for health
FFive primary schools in the Neunkirchen district were recently awarded the title of “Healthy School”. This honor is awarded by the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) and recognizes the efforts to promote health in educational institutions.
The awarded schools are the elementary schools Breitenau, Puchberg, Scheiblingkirchen, Wartmannstetten and Wimpassing. A total of 32 schools from Lower Austria received this title at the award ceremony. Norbert Fidler, the chairman of the ÖGK state committee, was pleased with the high level of participation from Lower Austrian schools and pointed out that 330 “healthy schools” are already part of the ÖGK network in the state.
Health and learning
Fidler emphasized the positive effects that all of these health-promoting initiatives have on students. A health-conscious lifestyle can help students develop better, be more motivated and learn more easily. Such an environment also means a noticeable relief in everyday working life for teachers, which makes the school a better place for everyone involved.
Brigitte Schuckert, head of the educational service, emphasized that programs such as “Healthy School” not only impart theoretical knowledge, but also offer practical experience. Health-promoting measures such as a balanced diet or sufficient exercise are integrated into everyday school life. These aspects are important for students because they learn how important it is to take care of their own health.
Ulrike Königsberger-Ludwig, the State Councilor for Education, thanked everyone involved in the education sector and emphasized the values and knowledge that are imparted through the program. These are crucial for the students' personal development, both in class and later in life. “Everything students experience as part of the program stays with them throughout their lives and promotes their health,” she said.
The award highlights the achievements of these schools and motivates other educational institutions to integrate similar health-promoting programs into their everyday lives. This positive development not only shows the appreciation for a healthy lifestyle, but also the willingness of schools to actively contribute to the health and well-being of their students.
The event to award the schools was attended by various personalities from the education and health sector, including Brigitte Kampitsch from the Breitenau elementary school and Andrea Fischer from the Puchberg/Schneeberg elementary school, who would like to provide the impetus for further initiatives in their schools.
This award is an indication of the valuable work being done in the Neunkirchen district's educational institutions and reflects the broad consensus on the need to prioritize health education in schools.
