Saving energy in Saarland: Modern street lighting for municipalities
A significant initiative to modernize street lighting in Saarland is imminent. The state government plans to support municipalities in converting to energy-efficient lighting technology, which could result in significant energy savings. It is estimated that cities and municipalities could save between 30 and 60 percent of current energy costs.
Saarland Energy Minister Jürgen Barke (SPD) emphasized the advantages of this initiative. “The municipalities will not only significantly reduce their energy costs, but also reduce their CO2 emissions, which has a positive effect on the climate and the environment,” explained Barke. This conversion particularly includes the introduction of insect-friendly LED technology. Older lighting systems in particular are often no longer compatible with available lamps and therefore require a change.
Applications are already possible now
The new program to promote conversion is being implemented via the ZEP future energy program. The program is currently still in final negotiations with the European Union. Nevertheless, municipalities already have the opportunity to submit an application for measures to begin early. This means that cities and municipalities do not have to wait for final approval and can start planning and implementation immediately.
This development affects many municipalities that want to modernize their street lighting in the coming months. For more information about the details of this funding measure, Those interested should visit the article on www.tagesschau.de.
