Games for the climate: students shape the future at the climathon
at the Climathon of the HAK/Has Mistelbach, which took place on Friday, November 8, 2024, pupils had the opportunity to explore an exciting and up -to -date topic: climate change. Under the motto "The game is the highest form of learning", the participants were introduced to the world of game development by experts.
Doris Vollgruber and Jan Steinhauser from Terragami moderated the event at which the students worked in small groups. First, the participants learned what different forms of play there are and what makes a good game. This theory was put directly into practice when they developed their own game ideas. The aim was to develop these concepts and to present them in the plenum at the end of the day.
game development and knowledge transfer
The climathon not only aimed at promoting creative approaches to combat climate change, but also raising awareness of climate -relevant topics. The students learned how challenges in the field of climate protection can be converted into entertaining but educational games. This innovative method of giving knowledge encourages the participants to look outside the box and to seek solutions for complex problems.
The event offered young people a platform to try their creative ideas in a friendly, supportive environment. The positive feedback from the participants show that this type of learning approach is well received and that interest in environmentally relevant topics can promote. This experience could not only motivate the students to deal more active with the challenges of climate change, but also inspire them to develop innovative solutions that could be important in the future.
Overall, the climathon on the HAK/HAS Mistelbach was a success - not only as a learning opportunity, but also as a creative platform for debate about urgently needed measures for climate protection. The participants not only developed games, but also a deep understanding of the complexity and urgency of the topic.
