New location for Mistelbach's Bolfras barracks: departure into modernity!
A new location for the expansion of the Bolfras barracks in Mistelbach has been determined! The location on the B40, in close proximity to the motorway, was chosen because of its excellent transport connections. This was confirmed by Mayor Erich Stubenvoll (ÖVP), who stated that the areas are ideal because they connect to the military Panzerstraße. Previous concerns, such as possible noise pollution or nature conservation requirements, appear to be allayed, as the new barracks will be located outside populated areas. According to Stubenvoll, approval is also expected quickly because the land is used for agricultural purposes and no corresponding ecological problems are expected, as was the case with the previous site, which was on a former ammunition depot.
New building with space for 600 soldiers
The old barracks, which are now almost 90 years old, urgently need a new building. The old location no longer seems up to date and a renovation would be more expensive than a completely new building. The costs for the new project amount to around 150 million euros, with the new building offering space for around 600 soldiers. “Mistelbach and the Bolfras Barracks belong together,” the mayor further emphasized, while Chief of General Staff Rudolf Striedinger also expressed his approval. According to those responsible, the decision for the new location is a decisive step towards modernizing the armed forces in the region.
