Together strong: Mistelbach sets a sign against violence on women

from November 25th, the International Memorial Day for women and girls who were victims of violence until December 10th, the International Day of Human Rights, there is an important period: 16 days against violence to women. These global and local activities aim to draw attention to the urgent topic of violence against women, which unfortunately is still present in our society.

In the Mistelbach district, a strong sign was also set this year. A flag is blowing in front of the town hall that protests against violence against women and shows solidarity. This is part of the women for women for women in Lower Austria and introduces a number of events that extend over two weeks. The aim of these actions is to raise awareness and to strengthen the rights of women.

The terrifying statistics

Reality is alarming. Despite many efforts to promote women's rights and reduce violence, the situation in Austria remains worrying. As the current figures show, 27 women have already been victims of female, a form of violence, in which women or ex-partners are killed by their partners or ex-partners. In addition, there are 39 attempts at murder and numerous violent incidents that illustrate that violence against women is a deeply rooted social problem.

These female reflect a fundamental ease of power in society. It is shocking that women in Austria still have to fight for their security. The existing statistics clearly show that it is urgently necessary to promote changes in politics, education and social context in order to make the life of women safer.

A call to action

"These murders make helpless - but they must not make us standalless," emphasizes Manuela herbs, the managing director of women for women. With a variety of events, education initiatives and working with affected women, you and your organization are strongly against violence. Her words are an appeal not to lose sight of the seriousness of the situation and to actively fight for a fairer future.

The 16 days against violence against women invite everyone to inform themselves, become active and to offer support for affected women. Every contribution, be it through donations or voluntary commitment, is important to give women security and perspectives. It is an opportunity to actively participate and to raise the voice against violence.
