New fire station for Spielberg/Pielach: Safe solution after flooding
The shattering events of the flood in September have once again impressively demonstrated how essentially the work of the blue light organizations, especially the volunteer fire brigade. In the municipality of Melk, the volunteer fire brigade was presented with massive challenges when the fire station in Spielberg/Pielach was severely affected. The water masses converted both the ground floor and the basement of the house into a catastrophic state, which led to considerable damage to a emergency vehicle, operational clothing and other technical devices. The financial damage amounts to a worrying sum, which only makes it possible to use the building to a limited extent. Nevertheless, the fire service is fully guaranteed.
In view of the recurring flood problem and the growing damage, an extraordinary general meeting in the city hall of Melk was held at the invitation of Mayor Patrick Strobl at the invitation of Mayor Patrick Strobl at the end of October. All 60 members present spoke unanimously for the construction of a new fire brigade building, which is to be built in a flood -proof area.progress for a new fire station
In order to set the course for the new building, the municipality of Melk commissioned a study that examines the effects and necessary measures for the fire station in Spielberg/Pielach. As soon as the findings are available, discussions with the state of Lower Austria should follow in order to promote future planning.
Fire brigade commander Friedrich Ellmer expressed clear thoughts on the new building: "The damage is so significant, with a water level on the ground floor with a water level on the ground floor that a renovation would not be economical. The fire station would continue to be at risk in the flood area," he emphasized. He added that both a emergency vehicle and a forklift that were still in the building at the time of the flood are now considered total damage.
Urban politics has clearly spoken out for the “New fire station” project. Mayor Strobl praised the "superhuman performance" of the two fire brigades during the flood: "We saw how important a functioning emergency system is. Our volunteer members are ready day and night to protect the population. Further information can be found on this topic www.meinbezirk.at .
