Melk exceeds 90,000 overnight stays: insight into the 2023 tourism record

The city of Melk has published the number of tourism for 2023 and presents a youth balance that, despite some challenges, shows gratifying results. Around 62,000 overnight stays were recorded by the end of August, although this is a decrease of 3.8 percent compared to the previous year. City chief Patrick Strobl from the ÖVP was optimistic about the numbers and hopes for a strong relaxation in the upcoming autumn months.

The record that the municipality has reached this year is particularly noteworthy: throughout 2023, the tourismists exceeded the 90,000 mark during the overnight stays. The severe decline in the first part of the year is contrasting to the 76,000 overnight stays collected until the end of September. The majority of the visitors were again mainly from the Austrian and German region as well as the Asian area in the city.

Important events to increase the number of visitors

In order to fight the decline and further promote the number of tourism, Tourismus City Councilor René Reinmüller emphasizes the relevance of events. A significant highlight of this summer was the public viewing during the European Football Championship, in which more than 15,000 guests were counted. The court festival also proved to be a small crowd puller, with over 10,000 visitors, and contributes to the revival of the old town.

"Events are particularly important to increase the frequencies in the old town," explains Reinmüller. Through intensive measures, even more tourists are to be lured into the city.

improved infrastructure for tourists

Another important project for the next season is the planned construction of a new bus stop for visitors to the Melk Abbey at the B1-Kremserstrasse intersection. This is done in cooperation with Zwölfer Reisen GmbH, which wants to offer line traffic that takes guests directly from the old town to the port.

After visiting the pen, the guests are guided through the idyllic old town to get to the stop. This initiative is intended to make it easier for travelers to orientate and ensure a pleasant experience on the way back to Hafenspitz, which in turn benefits the city center.

Developments in the field of tourism are of great importance to increase the annual night figures and to strengthen Melk's attractiveness as a travel destination. Details are on www.noen.at. to read .
