Josef Huber: Personal best time at the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt

Josef Huber from HSV Melk has fulfilled a dream and actively participated in the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt am Main. The athlete, who qualified at the Ironman Austria in Carinthia, faced the challenge that is one of the hardest in triathlon sports: 3.8 kilometers swimming, 180 kilometers cycling and finally a marathon over 42.2 kilometers.

The competition started for Huber in Langener See, just a stone's throw from Frankfurt Airport. Despite the neoprene ban, which means cooling the movements when swimming, he reached the route in a respectable time of 1:14 hours. The water temperature was a pleasant 26 degrees, which made the swimming conditions easier.

After a problem -free swimming round, we went to the 180 -kilometer long bike route, which led through the charming city center of Frankfurt and the picturesque Hessian hills. Huber mastered 1,400 meters of altitude and stated that he was able to play out his strengths, especially on the descents. After 5:24 hours he ended the bike race and thus reached an impressive average speed of 33.5 km/h.

The final marathon led him four times along the busy Maina, with the destination on the Römerberg, the historical heart of the city. Huber finally set up a new personal best with a total time of 11:03 hours. This success happened to be on his 30th birthday, which gave the event an additional ceremony.
